One tenure and one sabbatical application were submitted for review. The Personnel Committee recommends to Faculty Senate the following: Action Item: Personnel Committee recommends approval of Stephen Theriaults sabbatical request for the spring 2018 semester. His sabbatical request is centered upon advancing PhD dissertation progress. Action Item: Personnel Committee recommends approval to forward Mike Whiteheads tenure portfolio to Vice President Lynn Mahlberg. The committee reviewed the full tenure portfolio to ensure the contents to be thorough and complete. Informational items: Recent professional searches include new hiring of positions of GBC Advisor, Elko campus, Adriana Mendez and GBC Recruiter, Fallon Godwin-Butler. GBC Personnel Committee Meeting Minutes November 17, 2016 Present: Absent: Lisa Campbell, Pete Bagley, Xunming Du Bryan Asusta, Matt Nichols, Ken Pope, Mardell Wilkins Sonja Sibert Next meeting:December 12, 2016Meeting called tor order at 11:00am. Minutes approved. Personnel Committee met to review tenure and sabbatical applications. One application was received for tenure, and one application for sabbatical. Application materials were on file and available for review prior to the meeting. The committee members first reviewed and discussed Mike Whiteheads tenure portfolio. Chair outlined the role of Personnel Committee is not for tenure approval, but recommendation to move forward to VP of Academic and Student Affairs, Lynn Mahlberg. The committee confirmed the portfolio to be complete per guidelines and recommended to present for approval to Faculty Senate and to Vice President Mahlberg. The committee next reviewed Stephen Theriaults sabbatical application. The application was for a semester sabbatical application for the spring of 2018. The application was complete with letters of recommendation. The focus of the sabbatical is to provide Mr. Theriault time to begin work on his dissertation. The committee found the application complete and appropriate and recommend the application approved. The application will be forwarded for approval by Faculty Senate. Since not all members were present at the meeting, it was proposed that Chair route an email to committee members for final review opportunity and email vote. Mardell Wilkins provided email vote to affirm. A draft of the mentor policy and checklist was distributed to committee members. Draft supplied by Dean Bret Murphy. Review and discussion continued, with a few minor changes suggested. Pete Bagley suggested with such a short time for committee review of the policy, additional time was needed to review the document. Lisa agreed to meet with Bret Murphy about the small suggested changes. A draft of policy would be distributed by email and discussed at the next Personnel Committee meeting. Next meeting to be held December 12th at 11:00am.
