George Kleeb moved to approve Robert Hannu seconded. Motion passed unanimously. GUEST/PUBLIC COMMENT Information senate chair report Information/Possible Action Chair Report Given by Jinho Jung Tenure The Presidents of NSHE institutions requested a group of tenured faculty members from this last of Board of Regents meeting. Each candidate meets the standard for tenure as outlined in NSHE code and has been positively recommended by the institution following a peer review process. The following faculty members have been accepted: Josh Webster, Staci Warnert, Byron Calkins and Jinho Jung. Congratulations to them! Board of Regents Update The 2018 Regents Award was awarded to Xunming Du for Creative Activities and Mary Doucette received a teaching award. They both have received a $5,000 stipend. Congratulations! A new program has been proposed and approved by the Board of Regents, the BAS in Human Services. Oscar Sida gives an update on the program: The BAS program with an emphasis in Human Services and Substance Abuse Counseling is designed specifically to meet the needs of the lack of human service and substance abuse counselors in the rural areas. We are about 48th in the nation for the provider supply. The way I designed the program is that it meets the needs for licensure for substance abuse counselors. I also have the board of examiners for alcohol and drug counselors approve the curriculum, so when any of the GBC students go for licensure it will be a formality because as long as they pass the course and have been matriculated from the program they will meet the requirements to meet the licensure process. In addition to that, I developed a few other courses that will be supporting different mental health and substance abuse initiatives that will help bolster the pipeline for those types of career paths. Summer School Compensation Brandy Nielsen gives update on policy. NSHE Committee New NSHE Committee will be formed starting next academic year and all NSHE institutions will be present. The main focus will be common course numbering and transferability. All College Conversation Day The entire college comes together and will work from the four task force recommendations. Students, faculty, staff and community will work together on this day. If your classes were cancelled from the gas leak and you need to have class, you can have faculty cover your class on the 6th. It is recommended to speak with your corresponding dean about your classes on this day. The courses are CRJ 164 and 265 and had slight course description changes and prerequisite changes. George Kleeb moved to approve and Delores Whittaker seconded. The motion carries. Department Chairs No Report Distance Education No Report Faculty & Administrative Evaluations Verbal Report Oscar Sida is seeking approval to move forward with a new product to replace the Idea scores. There have been a number of surveys that have gone out that have crossed the boards dissatisfaction with this. The new product is called Evaluation Kit. Some of the problem with Idea is distribution of Scan Tron sheets. Some of the IT folks are saying they have problems finding parts for Scan Tron sheets and are costly. The Scan Tron sheets have to be ordered in bulk and are expensive and have to be distributed to the faculty and then they have to be collected. The process is cumbersome to administrative staff and faculty. We cannot change any of the questions in idea because it uses a national norming feature where it compares it. Some of the pros are that we get national norming. Evaluation Kit pros are that it is integrated into Web Campus directly and doesnt require a third party system to pull data and move it over into another system. The questions can be customized down to the course level. Some of the instructors are very interested in this. One of the cons is that we will lose national norming. A number of NSHE institutions are using this. This will help with integration and with questions that are already developed and will help with implementation. Lisa Frazier will work with this much more intimately. Lisa in support of this because it is more fluid and robust.
